Differences Between Muscle Relaxers and Fillers
What are Neurotoxins?
Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau, Xeomin, and Daxxify are injectable solutions that temporarily block the nerve receptors, preventing wrinkle formation. Botox, the first neurotoxin and most commonly known, has been around for over 30 years.
The results of treatment could last anywhere between 3-9 months, depending on the neurotoxin in use, area, and dosages administered. The difference between the different neurotoxins in the market is the formulation. They also all differ in the dosage requirements, longevity, and dilution.
By stopping muscle contraction, you then achieve a less wrinkled face while expressing. It's a quick 15-30 minute procedure and is mostly painless with little down time. While neurotoxins are only FDA approved for the upper face (forehead lines, crow's feet, and frown lines) for cosmetic uses, most of their uses have evolved multiple on and around the face.
Neurotoxins have also been used for a long time medically to treat muscle spasms, overactive bladder, lazy eye, excessive sweating in multiple areas of the body and migraine headaches.
What are fillers?
When it comes to fillers, as the name suggests, they fill the wrinkles in the face. They are injected in different areas in the face to plump up wrinkles and smooth lines on your face. These could be areas on the forehead, temples, nose, cheeks, lips, smile lines, etc. There are different fillers in the market, each differing in their formulation and longevity.
Most common fillers last anywhere from 6 months to 2 years. There are some fillers that are more permanent and can last up to 5 years.
